今回紹介するのはインタヴュー集です。

編者のデンボはウィスコンシン大学の教授でContemporary Writerの編集に尽力した人物でした。
L. S. Dembo, a scholar of modernist poetry, became editor of the journal in 1966 and shortened its title two years later. During his twenty-four years as editor, Dembo’s dedication to all that is exciting in modern and contemporary literature helped the journal to attain the international readership and large subscription base that he and the associate editors (Cyrena N. Pondrom, Betsy Draine, Phillip Herring, Jay Clayton, and Thomas Schaub) sought for it.

Barth and Hawkes emphasizes the imaginative world, but their fiction often has a realistic point of departure; Sundman remains chiefly a realist; Singer emphasizes the real world but hints at a "miraculous" one beyond it; Nabokov and Borges are caught up in artifices and imaginative patterns.

Contemporary Literature, vol 8.(2) Spring 1967 に掲載されたもののようです。
今回紹介するアンソロジーは

です。
Aspects of Loveにつづいて、また『プレイボーイ』ものですね。
『プレイボーイ』20周年を記念して出たもののようです。
亡くなった編集者のＡ・Ｃ・スペクトースキーに捧げられています。
編者は創刊者のヒュー・ヘフナー。
序文でこう書いています。
Reliving those years as I pondered past issues in deciding on the final table of contents for this anthology of the best writing we have published, I recalled the magazine's earlist begginings, and gave thought to the unorthodox way in which, almost by inadvertence, we attained our present pre-eminence. I say unorthodox because it was my beliefthen--and it still is--that editing a magazine should ideally be a very personal matter, in that one's own taste and judgment should be the primary criteria of content, rather than the traditional procedure of trying to second-guess the preferences of a preconceived audience whose approbation must be won. p. viii.
Thus, you will find in these pages a variety of "entertainments," ranging from a James Bond thriller by Ian Fleming to Henry Miller's clarion blast against censorship, from Vladimir Nabokov's penetrating views on literature and life to a sensitive and haunting love story by Herbert Gold.... p. ix.

ナボコフはアルベルト・シュヴァイツァー、アート・バックウォルド、マーティン・ルーサー・キングとならんでインタヴューが収録されています。1964年1月号に掲載されたインタヴューの再録です。
今回紹介するアンソロジーはThe World in Vogue (New York: Viking,1963)です。
といってもこれはアンソロジーというよりは、ファッション誌『ヴォーグ』の七十周年記念の総集編みたいな内容です。
This book was published on the magazine’s seventieth anniversary and is a compendium of its best writing, photographs, and illustration with contributions by the many of the best writers, photographers, and artists of the 20th Century. Fashion is but one of the subjects covered. As Vogue editor-in-chief Jessica Daves writes in her introduction to this book, Vogue speaks to a reading audience “moved by hunger, love, and fear; to seek amusement; to feel envy, desire, curiosity, and [possess] an avid interest in the new,” in art, fashion, philosophy, music, society, etc.

目次が長すぎて全体を写せないほどです。
中身はこんな感じで、エッセイと写真の組み合わせです。
肝心のナボコフと言うと、こんな感じでホルスト・タッペの写真と紹介文が掲載されています。ほかの人とはちがい、捕虫網と雨合羽というスタイルです。
1960年代から70年代にかけて、ナボコフは数回『ヴォーグ』誌上でインタヴューを受けました。そのあたりのことは著書でも書きました（四章「フィルムのなかのナボコフ」）。しかし、この本の刊行された63年の時点でこのような本が出るほど、どういう関係があったのでしょうか。そのあたりのことはよくわかりませんが・・・

収録されている作家でほかに有名どころは、 アーウィン・ショー、ジョイス・キャロル・オーツでしょうか。
ほかには推理小説家ヘンリー・スレッサー（1927-）、脚本家ケン・コルブ（1926-）、ジェームス・D・ヒューストン（1933-2009）などがいます。
あとはハーバート・ゴールド。この人はナボコフのアンソロジーにほんとよくでてきます。
ナボコフは「さっそうたる男」が収録されています。例によってロシア語作品の自己翻訳です。この作品も、『プレイボーイ』1971年12月号に掲載されました。
今回紹介するアンソロジーは

前回までとちがって、『ロリータ』刊行後のアンソロジーですね。
『ロリータ』刊行後はもちろんいろんなアンソロジーにナボコフの作品は収録されていくことになるわけです。
このアンソロジーの編者はジェローム・チャーリン（1937-）。
日本ではミステリ系の作家として紹介されていたようです。ただし邦訳にはそれほど恵まれていない様子。

ジョン・バース(1930-)、フィリップ・ロス(1933-2018)、ジョン・ホークス(1925-1998)、ウィリアム・ギャス(1924-2017)、ソール・ベロー(1915-2005)、グレイス・ペイリー（1922-2007）、トマス・ピンチョン(1937-)、ジョーゼフ・ヘラー(1923-1999)、ドナルド・バーセルミ(1931-1989)、フラナリー・オコナー(1925-1964)、ケン・キージー（1935-2001）など、かなり有名どころもはいっていますね。ジョン・レノン（1940-）までいます。
やはりここでポイントは69年の時点ではかなり若い作家がたくさん入っていることです。チャーリンが自分の世代の作家を中心に集めたのでしょう。30代、40代の作家が中心で、70歳のナボコフはかなり年齢だけ見れば浮いています。
ホルヘ・ルイス・ボルヘス、トンマーゾ・ランドルフィなど、英語圏以外の作家も入っています。
「じゃがいもエルフ」はロシア語作品の英訳です。
この作品は、セルジュ・ベルテンソンとイレーネ・コシンスカ訳で一九三九年に『エスクワイア』に掲載されました。ナボコフにとってはアメリカで出版された最初期の英訳になりました。
のちに、この短編をナボコフは息子と共訳して、自分の短編集にいれています。
ナボコフは特別に、アペル・ジュニアによる解説がついているのもおもしろいですね。この解説はかなり長いもので、伝記と「パターン」、「パロディ」、「作品内作品」、「作者の声」など文学技法を紹介しています。

別のアンソロジーの紹介があっておもわずほしくなってしまいました。
